What is attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder?Ī. In this issue of Ask the Doctor, we will talk about supplemental nutrients that help children concentrate on school activities and enjoy extracurricular activities and events.īut first we need to discuss some background about attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and how this disorder can adversely affect school performance, friendships, and family relationships. Because of this negative school experience, these children often incorrectly conclude that they are “dumb” or “worthless.”īut there are ways to help hyperactive and easily distracted children focus their energy and attention in positive, constructive ways. The individuals touched by ADHD include not only the affected children, but their concerned parents, siblings, and the frustrated teachers as well.Ĭhildren who have difficulty filtering out distractions, staying on task, paying attention, and controlling their bodies invariably do not do well in school. There's data linking Netflix's subscriber growth in India to cheaper plans. A company spokeswoman referred to the offering as a "test." In December, multiple press outlets reported that Netflix introduced subscription discounts of up to 50% for longer-term plans in India - three-, six- and 12-month plans. and net that's a revenue positive action for us." He added that was "a pretty good indicator that there might be other countries around the world where that kind of offering will work as well." "We've added this price at a lower price point we've been able to add incremental subscribers," said Gregory Peters, chief product officer at Netflix, on the Q4 earnings call. The success in India, a highly crowded market bustling with local and global players and low-cost plans, prompted Netflix to expand its skinny mobile offering to Malaysia and Indonesia. It has been testing a cheaper mobile-only $3 a month plan in India, one of its key developing markets. Netflix isn't stranger to slimmed-down subscription plans. "To keep up with those giants, you've got to spend very heavily on that and track locations and all kinds of other things that we're not interested in doing. "If you wanted to succeed in online advertising, you can't just have a little data," Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said on the earnings call. The company's executives said it is difficult to compete with internet giants like Facebook, Alphabet and Amazon when it comes to an ads-based model, and the company also worries about the broader internet privacy debate. However, Netflix has ruled out an advertising-based model, at least for now, based on comments from the recent earnings call. It attracts lower-income customers, stems the practice of using other people's passwords and adds a new pricing lever by increasing ad loads rather than raising subscription, Martin said. "This price differential will cause lower subscriber growth than we had previously expected." In the least, he added, the competition "will constrain Netflix's ability to raise prices without inducing greater churn." Millions of subscribers in playĪ new $5–$7-per-month pricing tier, subsidized with ads, is the best option for Netflix, she said. "Customers are more price-sensitive than previously thought, and competitors like Disney+ are already undercutting Netflix's prices," wrote Morningstar equity analyst Neil Macker in a recent report. There's a compelling case for price tweaks as a way for Netflix to keep and add consumers and stave off lower-priced rival services that are scrambling to peel away its customers. The competition will continue to increase, with advertising-funded Peacock from Comcast 's NBCUniversal and HBO Max from AT&T 's WarnerMedia set to stream into the market this spring. In these kinds of situations, an MOU is an appealing option because it's simple and direct, without the kinds of complex and combative standard terms and conditions of contract law. They require the parties to come to some sort of mutual agreement, and in order to do that, they have to take stock of their needs and wants and put them to paper. In some cases, a party is legally required to create MOUs, such as when housing authorities negotiate with tenants.īut MOUs hold a lot of potential power because of the time and energy they take to plan and write. You may wonder why two parties would go to the effort of putting together an MOU, especially considering that it's not an enforceable document. On the next page, you'll see why memoranda of understanding are virtual celebrities in the legal world. They also provide a mutually beneficial framework that both entities can work within to achieve shared goals. Well-written MOUs reflect diplomatic savvy and creative analytical thinking. But ultimately, the reason that parties opt for MOUs is because they are simpler and more flexible than contracts. All sorts of entities use MOUs to create guidelines for each party as they contribute their efforts and resources toward important projects. MOUs are less formal than contracts, and typically include fewer details and complexities, but they are more formal than handshake agreements, sometimes called gentlemen's agreements. Contracts are necessary when there is any sort of exchange of money because they help to protect the interests of both parties and ensure trust. A contract is a written, private agreement between two parties that is legally binding and can be enforced by a judge.Ĭontracts spell out the nitty-gritty obligations of each party which, if breached, can spell dire consequences for the entity that breaks it. You might think that memoranda of understanding sound suspiciously similar to contracts, but there are actually significant differences between the two. And here are two other touchstones of MOUs - generally they're not legally binding, in part because neither party wants to deal with the ramifications of a binding agreement, and they don't involve the exchange of money. No matter their length or complexity, MOUs specify mutually-accepted expectations between two or more people or organizations as they labor together toward a common objective. Others are long-winded and extremely detailed. MOUs are very common and are used for domestic purposes and agreements between nations. I was dumbfounded! You want me to do an hour round-trip to bring back this inedible mess? She then said, do you want me to replace your Ribs? At this point, I just gave up on her - She did not care about me or my complaint, so I just hung up. I had not asked for refund but she immediately went into, "I can't give a refund without seeing the "Product." Linette got on the phone, stating she was the manager, God help us! She was aggressively defensive. So, I called the restaurant and asked for the Manager. The Chef (loosely speaking) or kitchen manager should have seen how burned and dried out they were, and should have been replaced BEFORE giving such a visibly crappy rack of ribs to me. The first time I chalked it up to an anomaly but, the second time in a row was just lousy kitchen quality control. last 2 months I ordered Ribs to go and both times the Ribs were inedible. I and my extended family have patronized multiple locations and have left always looking forward to our next visit - I moved to Deerfield several years ago and so Carson's Deerfield is my Home Ribs server. Moral of the story - if you are in Chicago or the Northern suburbs and you want outstanding BBQ, go to Carson's. Big Ed's in Waukegan has very good BBQ, but Carson's is a bit better. It was also only $2.00 less expensive than Carson's - not a comparison at all. The portions were small, there was not a lot of meat on the ribs and there was none left to take home. I recently had a burnt ends and partial rack combo at Real Urban BBQ in Vernon Hills and it did not hold a candle to Carson's. The portions are very large - expect to take some home. There is a lot of meat on the bone - the meat is not thin or skimpy. Carson's are simply the best I have ever had. Louis, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, Vegas and California. I have eaten great BBQ (and some not so great BBQ) in Memphis, Kansas City, St. The remodeling is very nice, the dinner was as outstanding as ever! We had dinner here last evening after their remodeling was completed. I will return, but i don’t think it will be on my “must” list when I’m back in Chicago again. The half slab of ribs that was a small end piece was a disappointment and the Au Gratins were not as good as usual. Overall, we enjoyed the meal, but it’s just not the same great experience I remember over all the years I’ve been eating here. We should have sent it back, but I figured if the kitchen sent it out, thats what they serve. This really should not have been served as a stand alone half slab. One of the half slabs was an end piece and very small with more bones than meat. Too cheesy and the cheese was kind of hard instead of creamy. The Au Gratins were not as good as I remember. The twice baked potatoes and pork chops were excellent. The Cole Slaw is still the best I have had anywhere, but is a smaller portion than before. We had ribs, a pork chop, twice baked potatoes, Au Gratin potatoes and the Cole Slaw. For $7 you get a generous serving with onions and rye bread and we ordered it as soon as we were seated with our drinks. The chop liver and snacks are no longer complimentary at the bar which is no big deal given rising costs, but arriving early and enjoying a drink at the bar with this was always part of the experience. Unfortunately this last meal was a bit lacking. Mostly at the old Downtown location on Wells Street, but over the past ten years or so at this location in Deerfield. I grew up in Chicago and have been eating at Carson’s for over 30 years.
