![]() ![]() It may mean you have to adjust some pieces later, but this book is not laid out well to give you all the information you need from the start - and even if you read it cover-to-cover several times, there are pieces that won't necessarily resonate until you're in the middle of it.Īn example from my game: the players got really invested in how the eldritch balm was made. The best advice I can give you is to do your best, but ultimately make decisions that make sense to you and stick with it even if it goes against "canon" - this is your game, so anything you say is canon. We just wrapped up year one, and I never really made use of that role, but it was there if I needed it. In terms of the roles of some of the faculty, I tend to assume that anyone who has a professor statblock is the stated professor - so Sharpbeak is a Silverquill professor of radiance, BUT she tends to act as a guidance counselor for freshmen who don't have advisors yet. Also, the way I personally think of it is that the Deans run the school, and the director is more there as an intermediary as needed. I've only done year one so far, but I've used the leadership confusion to basically build in some administrative incompetence that allows the issues that crop up throughout the campaign to make more sense - if no one is working together, of course they're not piecing together that something is wrong.īasically, I think the org chart you've got is pretty good except that the Oracle is almost "outside" of the hierarchy. The Oracle is a kind of watchdog over all magical activity on Arcavios - it just so happens that most of that activity is coming from the school. The Director is concerned with the running of the school. It's more like they are heads of different departments. The founder Dragons are in direct communication with both. ![]() This is a little more clear on the MTG side of things - in Magic, Jadzi is the Oracle of Arcavios in D&D, Jadzi is (incorrectly from what I understand) the Oracle of Strixhaven.Īs far as the Director heeding the wisdom of the Oracle, that's not really an issue. The Oracle is not officially a part of Strixhaven and doesn't really hold any "authority" in a hierarchical sense. Taiva (the director) acts as an intermediary between the Founder Dragons and the school. You could say the Founder Dragons are more akin to the board of directors. That said, here's what I was able to piece together: actually function according to official documents is more of a rough outline than an actual setting. How Strixhaven, Arcavios, the hierarchies, the knots, etc. If you feel the need to actually understand how any of this stuff works within the setting, be prepared to do a lot of homebrewing. How do you guys usually play that conflict out for those characters?įirst, let me start by saying good luck. 3: Campus Kerfuffle' under the 'Ending the Threat' section it states, "Professor Mavinda Sharpbeak (neutral good owlin Silverquill professor of radiance see chapter 7) arrives on the scene" and goes on to state, "A guidance counselor at Strixhaven, Professor Sharpbeak was overseeing the orientation activities". 1: Life at Strixhaven' under the 'Administration' section it states, "These personnel include folk like Mavinda Sharpbeak, the kindly owlin guidance counselor who takes first-year students under her wing, and Gyome, the troll chef of Witherbloom College." However, later in the same chapter Gyome is listed under 'Witherbloom Faculty' Lastly, I'm trying to make sense of the faculty and administration but this confused me:
